Medicinal Forest Garden Trust

Elderflowers

New tree information. We have been gradually adding medicinal tree information sheets to the Holt Wood website, and now have Cramp bark, Ginkgo, Hawthorn, Prickly ash, Witch hazel, and just added Elder. This wonderful native small tree can fit just about anywhere, in sun or part shade and produces flowers and fruits which can be used in many ways, especially good in easing colds and flu. Donations. Also on the Medicinal Forest Garden Trust page we have introduced an opportunity to donate £10 to the Trust in return for printed versions of the tree information sheets.

New Etsy postings for Holt Wood Herbs shop

We thought we would try some of our artisan body care products on the Etsy online shop. TIP: if you ‘favourite’ our Etsy shop then you can get a coupon for 10% off orders, such as our Witch Hazel and Rosemary Deodorant

Buckfast Abbey

We had a gorgeous day out at Buckfast Abbey in early June 2018 – lots of brilliant stalls (including ours!) were there for the Millenium Fete, from organic vegetable plants to fabulous talks (including one by Anne on herbal medicines in the garden). Worth a visit, there is free entry to the Abbey gardens including a superb lavender garden, and they do guided tours which can be booked.

Radio 4 programme on Willow

At Holt Wood in May, Anne was interviewed about Willow for the BBC Radio 4 Natural Histories programme. The radio programme aired later in July. Most of the programme is about cultural perceptions of Willow, from witchcraft and wands to Victorian melancholy, but there is a little on the medicinal uses about half way through, when Anne can be heard! You can listen to the Willow programme on the BBC iPlayer.
